Kiwi Bird Facts - Amazing and Interesting

A Kiwi bird is an amazing bird with certain characteristics that are unique among all the creatures on the earth. I would like to share some amazing kiwi bird facts with you. Kiwi is actually a chicken sized flightless bird having about 5 cm wings. It is a nocturnal bird that sleeps during the day time and feed at night.

Kiwi bird is physically distinctive from other birds due to its long beak and being a tailless bird. It uses its long beak to look for food like worms and other insects etc. It has sharp sense of smell owing to the presence of its nostrils in the tip of its beak. The eye sight of the kiwi bird is very weak allowing them to view at a distance of 6 feet at night and more reduced vision at day time. 
Kiwi bird is believed to be about 8 million years old specie that is indigenous to New Zealand. It is for this reason that the people of New Zealand call them Kiwi and their national bird and symbol is also kiwi. New Zealand is home for all the type of kiwis and the country is protecting it to avoid its extinction.
Kiwi bird is classified as a bird and the amazing thing is that it has some characteristics that make it similar to mammals. It has thick fur like feathers with very hard skin and its bone structure is very heavy unlike other birds. Its body temperature is same as that of mammals. As it has beak and lays eggs it is more like a bird rather than a mammal. Kiwi bird lays egg that is very large in size when compared to their body size.
Kiwi is a very interesting bird and due to its uniqueness it is always fun to watch it. Bird watchers are usually thrilled when they have a chance to cherish their sight with such an amazing bird of nature.
